Beard transplant is the procedure of transplanting hair that is usually taken from the back of the neck or from the chin to the face. Similar to all facial hair transplantation procedures, extra care must be taken for the direction of grafting for the hair to grow in the right way.
The reasons for having a thin beard can be scars, Trichotillomania (hair-pulling disorder), genetics, or burns.
Having a thin or weak beard may have negative effects on men as a beard is a sign of masculinity in some cultures. It may become a symbol of authority, power, or grown manhood that's why beard transplantation plays a role in gaining back self-esteem.
During beard transplant procedures an average of 4000 to 7000 hairs can be transplanted depending on the need of the patient. Beard transplantation is the most natural and permanent solution for men suffering from facial hair loss.
How is Beard Transplantation Performed?
FUE technique is used for beard transplantation. The patient must have sufficient amount of hair in the donor area, and it is very important to match the texture and the color of the donor area and the beard.
After the design of the new beard is created by the doctor, local anesthesia is applied. The hair follicles are extracted from the donor area and transplanted into the channels opened in the beard area. Special blades are used for the operation. The operation takes around 2-5 hours. Patients can return to their social life or work after 1 day's rest.
